Docs OpenCode skills
Use Edge and install skills in OpenCode
Add Edge as a local MCP server in OpenCode configuration, then ask the agent to find a fitting skill and load its instructions. For skills you keep locally, use .opencode/skills in the project or ~/.config/opencode/skills globally. Each skill folder contains SKILL.md and any scripts or references it needs.
How do I connect Edge?
Merge the entry into opencode.json in the project or the global configuration. Use opencode mcp list to inspect configured servers, then ask OpenCode to find and load a skill for your task.
{
"$schema": "https://opencode.ai/config.json",
"mcp": {
"edge": {
"type": "local",
"command": [
"npx",
"-y",
"@getedge/mcp"
],
"enabled": true
}
}
}Free setup uses no Edge key. Read Edge setup for plans and data handling.
Where do I keep a skill?
.opencode/skills/my-skill/SKILL.md or ~/.config/opencode/skills/my-skill/SKILL.md
OpenCode also reads compatible .claude/skills and .agents/skills locations. Use a lowercase hyphenated skill name that matches its folder. Keep required name and description frontmatter in SKILL.md so the agent can discover it.
Review a skill before adding it. Preserve its whole folder, including scripts, references and assets. Follow the skill selection guide to check its exact source and requirements.
How do I check that setup works?
Ask: Use Edge to find a skill for my task, show its source, and load it if it fits. Confirm an actual find_skill and use_skill result. Then try one small task and inspect the output. A visible configuration entry confirms setup syntax; it does not prove that a skill improves the result.
Sources, method and limits
Edge is our product. Checked 2026-10-02. Configuration parsed and opencode mcp help checked locally; live transport not exercised. This guide uses client documentation and Edge setup instructions, without performance scores.
